Raspberry Pi

What is the Raspberry PI?

The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard usb keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It can be a retro gaming system, a media center, desktop computer and many other things. The latest version the Raspberry PI4B comes packed with a 1.5GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 CPU, 1GB, 2GB or 4GB of RAM, dual-band wireless LAN, Bluetooth, an audio out jack, 4 USB ports, an ethernet jack and two 4K HDMI outputs. The most popular operating system is Rasbian and comes with the Libre Office Suite, a web browser, Python, Java, Scratch and other programming tools. It can run Ubuntu, Kali Linux, RaspBSD, OpenMediaVault, the Chromium OS (Created by Google) and many other specialty operating systems. The Rasberry PI operating system goes on a Micro SD card. These can be bought on Amazon, at Best Buy and Office Depot. I recommend Samsung or SanDisk 32GB or 64 GB Class 10 cards Micro SD cards. One of the most exciting features of the Raspberry PI is a 40 pin GPIO header that lets you interface the RPI with other electronic components to create robots, weather stations, and many other incredible projects. I recommend buying a Raspberry PI kit on Amazon. They come with all the components that you need to get started. Most come with a case, power supply, Micro SD card adapter, Micro SD card, heatsinks, a fan and micro HDMI cables. Different kits come with different style cases and Micro SD card sizes. One even comes with the official Raspberry Pi keyboard, case and mouse. You can also buy cases by themselves in diffenet styles and colors. Some let you stack multiple RPI's in a tower like configuration.
